2011 Scholarship Recipient
Abbey Amos
The Madison County Master
Gardeners Association (MCMGA) has announced that Lapel
High School senior Abbey Amos has been chosen as the
recipient of the 2011 MCMGA $1000 scholarship. Abbey is
the daughter of Frank and Michele Amos of Anderson.
To be eligible for this scholarship, recipients must
reside in Madison County and have declared their intent
to pursue a college major in horticulture or a related
area. In addition to their interest in horticulture,
applicants are evaluated on scholarship, leadership,
personality, character and a recommendation by their
school counselor/advisor.
Abbey has been accepted at Purdue University where she
will major in Agri-business and minor in
Ag-communications. At Lapel, Abbey ranks 4th in her
class of 90, is active in band, cross country and
cheerleading, is student council president and is a
member of FFA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In
2010 she was named the Madison County Athlete of
Character. She has been a member of the Lapel City Youth
Commission, 4-H, 4-H Junior Leaders, Indiana Shropshire
Association (queen), and Indiana Junior Beef
Association. She attended the Youth Leadership Academy,
Girls State, Senator Richard Lugar's and Senator Luke
Kenley's Leadership Symposiums and served as a volunteer
at Dove Harbor and Sister to Sister ministries. She
attends Madison Park Church of God.
Since 2000, MCMGA has awarded twenty-one $1000
scholarships and three $500 scholarships. They fund the
scholarship program through their annual plant sale
which is set this year for Saturday, May 14th, from 9
a.m. to noon at the 4-H building in Alexandria and their
annual garden tour set for Saturday, July 9th, from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets for the garden tour are $5 and
can be purchased by calling 765-378-3190 or at any of
the gardens the day of the tour. |
